It is merely a helper to be used with other techniques.
Set your alarm for 4-5 hours after you go to sleep, then go to sleep.
Re-activate your mind for about 20 minutes. Try reading your dream journal (you are keeping one, right?).
Fall back asleep, staying mindful and intent that you should be directly entering a dream. This is a great time to perform another technique, such as WILD or MILD.
